My writing career began in the seventh grade when I printed a neighborhood newsletter using tiny backwards rubber letters on little trays that I smeared onto the paper with ink. This worked well until I learned that gossip overheard from grown-ups was not to be repeated in print. I studied journalism in high school and college and eventually worked in energy conservation for a local electric public utility where writing was a big part of my job. I wrote proposals, plans, budgets, and advertising copy and my people skills came in handy working with management, staff, contractors, and the public.

After my energy conservation career, I returned to college and thrived while majoring in English with an emphasis on multi-cultural literature. I adopted an old one-eyed squirrel at school, fed her granola bars, and named her Eunice. It was a sad parting when I graduated magna cum laude

I took my love of writing, new skills, and experience in technical writing to a freelance writing career, and never looked back. I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients from nonprofits to big construction companies and consultants for homeland security. Some of my contracts also required public speaking which I enjoyed while serving on the speaker’s panel at my former company. I’ve written for local publications, political campaigns, and blogs. I also wrote a World War II oral history after interviewing a couple who escaped from Poland during World War II.

I traveled to Zambia four times over the past few years and fell in love with the people and the wildlife. I am now a trustee with a Sacramento-based nonprofit, Africa Hope Fund and am writing a book about elephant poaching in Zambia to raise awareness and support for the plight and near- extinction of these sentient, family-centered beings.
